GAZE PATTERNS
Where do people look when walking towards a target?

These movies show the direction of gaze of subjects while walking towards a predefined target.Eye position and scene were recorded simultaneously using a headband-mounted, eye-imaging system, ISCAN. The system was modified to be battery operated. The subject was instructed to walk down the hall, find the fifth door on the left, and turn to go through it. The red plus sign on each frame indicates the gaze position. The blue plus sign indicates a blink or closed eyes.

The movies below are taken from persons with central visual field loss (CFL) as a result of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or juvenile macular degeneration (Stargardt's). The red rectangle in each frame indicates the approximate size and position of the binocular scotoma relative to fixation estimated from perimetry on the Scanning Laser Ophthalmoloscope.
